New priorities of program “Moldova Making the Most of Migration”

For the next few years, the program “Moldova Making the Most of Migration” that is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation envisions a transversal approach to aspects of migration that will be included in the component “Economic development, employment and local governance”, Viorica Crețu, vice director of the Agency, stated in the third meeting of the program’s Coordination Council, IPN reports.

In a press release, the Bureau for Diaspora Relation’s says the Government’s secretary general Lilia Palii in the meeting spoke about the first phase of the program during which 54 projects of the diaspora were implemented. There were organized a series of events and training seminars to strengthen the diaspora’s capacities to take an active part in the country’s development. Though the agency of the component “Economic development, employment and local governance”, there will be applied the instrument of decentralization and utilization of development partners’ external resources. This will enable to improve the financial management of international projects.

Antonio Polosa, chief of the International Organization for Migration Mission to Moldova, and Ghenadie Cretu, IOM Mission program coordinator, took stock of the activities performed at the first phase of the project, including the printing of three issues of the magazine “Moldova from everywhere”, enhancement of communications with the diaspora and foreign students and supporting of 50 initiatives of the diaspora.

The program “Moldova Making the Most of Migration” was launched in August 2015 to strengthen the positive impact of migration on the socioeconomic development of the country. The Coordination Council monitors and assesses the implementation of the program, the efficiency and impact of the provided assistance. The Council’s mission is to ensure the good coordination and synchronization of the common activities of the three projects of the program through a continuous exchange of information between the State Chancellery, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the project implementation partners and other involved players.
