New victories for chess players
The Moldovan chess players won new victories at the World Chess Championship in Russia. In the second round, the men's team beat Germany's squad 2.5-1.5, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The team's leader Viorel Bologan suffered a defeat, while Viorel Iordachescu and Vasile Sanduleac scored victories. Moldova now ranks 24th out of 148 countries, with a total of seven points. China is the next opponent of Moldova.
The women's squad defeated Columbia's 2.5-1.5, with Carolina Smochina and Diana Baciu winning victories. With 5 points, Moldova takes the 26th position out of 114 countries. In the next round, the team will face the Indian chess players.
The 39th world Olympiad brought together 1,380 chess players from over 100 countries. The competition closes on October 4.
