President Nicolae Timofti is not fully satisfied with the way the reform of the legal system is done and believes that the judges who oppose the changes are to blame for this. “I’m not fully satisfied with the self-cleaning process in the judicial system,” the head of state said after the meeting of the national council for the reform of the law enforcement bodies on December 11, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Nicolae Timofti also said that a bill suggesting increasing the salaries of judges to up to about 10,000 lei will be discussed in Parliament this or next week. “We hope that by such a move we will manage to prevent the judges from looking for another source of existence,” he stated.
Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim told the journalists that those who oppose the reform can be easily seen. “The reform of the legal system applies first of all to judges and prosecutors and to the legal education. We have assessed the risks since the strategy was drafted and the resistance inside the system that must be reformed represents one of these risks,” said the minister. He also said that the Ministry of Justice will involve a number of persons in its initiatives so that any opposition to the reform is annihilated.
This is the first meeting of the national council for the reform of the law enforcement bodies that was chaired by Nicolae Timofti.
