Nine Polish books about Poland’s culture and history and about the fall of communism in a number of states, translated into Romanian, were presented in Chisinau as part of the events staged on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the fall of communism in Poland, IPN reports.

The book “My century. Confessions of a European intellectual. Conversations with Czesław Miłosz”, written by Aleksander Wat, describes the life of an intellectual who was enticed by communism and see his family ultimately dismembered because of it. Norman Davies’ “History of Poland. God’s playground” relates interesting events from Poland’s history. In “Dreams and secrets”, Danuta Wałęsa, the wife of the national hero of Poland Lech Wałęsa, described her life near him and their eight children and how they coped in the 1980s, when Poland was a poor country. The Wałęsa family consisting of ten people lived in a two-room apartment, which also hosted the meetings of Lech Wałęsa with his supporters in the fight for freedom.

The other books describe the changes that started in Poland, Hungary, the German Democratic Republic, Czechoslovakia, Romania, and Bulgaria in the second half of the 1980s and that ended with the fall of the communist system in 1989.

Director of the Polish Institute of Bucharest Maja Wawrzyk said that these books are very popular in Poland and therefore they decided to translate them into Romanian so as to distribute them in Romania and Moldova.

Attending the even, historian Igor Casu said that these books, even if they describe history, do it in a way that is pleasant for any reader.

The other books presented are: “Bucharest. Dust and Blood” by Malgorzata Rejmer; “Gottland” by Mariusz Szczygieł; “1989. Autumn of Nations” by Adam Burakowski, Aleksander Gubrynowicz, and Pawel Ukielski; “Dictatorship of N. Cheaushescu 1965-1989. Genius of the Carpathians” by Adam Burakowski; “Return home” by Sławomir Rawicz, which is a bestseller translated into over 25 languages, and “Road to truth. Autobiography” by Lech Wałęsa.
