Beginning this week the there are more trolleybuses running on Chisinau’s routes, as people returning from summer vacations and students in preparation for the academic year are starting to increasingly use the public transport system. Once the school year starts on September 1, still more trolleybuses will be added.

Electric Transport Company chief Gheorghe Morgoci said 260 trolleybuses were dispatched daily during the summer season, and now their number has been increased to 280. From September 1, their number will be increased to 300.

Students as well as pensioners with a pension under 1,700 lei can buy discounted monthly tickets for 70 lei. Regular monthly tickets are priced at 180 lei. Children under seven years of age travel free of charge.

Commenting on a recent case in which a trolleybus conductor was caught selling falsified tickets, Gheorghe Morgoci said three Electric Transport Company employees were fired and handed over to the police. While the damage has not been estimated yet, Morgoci said such practices are seriously harming the Company’s budget.
