The number of offenses committed last year rose by 6.7% compared with 2012, while the damage caused by them was assessed at 727 million lei. The number of cases of murder and domestic violence has increased, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Ministry of the Interior.

Minister Dorin Recean told a news conference that the criminal situation was influenced by the insufficient incomes of the population and by the addiction to alcohol of some persons. 

As to accomplishments, the minister mentioned the modern outfitting of the vehicles and subdivisions of the Ministry of the Interior, the launch of the Traffic Monitoring Center and the reduction by 33% in the number of victims of road accidents.

As to the priorities for this year, Dorin Recean said the 178 police stations located all over Moldova are to be outfitted with the necessary equipment. There will be used integrity tests. The lifestyle of policemen will be monitored and the network of video cameras for supervising traffic on the national roads will be extended.
