Of the total number of families that benefit from social welfare, 57.3% are families with children, the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family has said, quoted by IPN.  17,000 families with children receive now social benefit, while another over 2,000 receive cold-month allowances.

Almost 7,000 families of the beneficiary families are one-parent families. 2,000 families have three and more children.  On average, the families on low incomes that bring up a child receive benefit of 809 lei a month from the state, the socially deprived families with two children receive 1,088 lei, while those with three children and more – 1,586 lei.

The social benefit is provided based on the Law on Social Welfare of June 13, 2008. Currently, the social welfare system is the main instrument of social policies.
