Over 2,600 young men drafted into army

As many as 2,605 young people have been called up this spring, 1,300 of whom into the National Army, 805 into the Carabineer Troops and 500 into the Border Guard Service. Colonel Eduard Ohladchuc, the head of the National Army’s Personnel Division, told a news conference on August 4 that 3% of the young men drafted this year have higher education, as against about 1% last year. Eduard Ohladchuc said the best conscription results were achieved by the military centers in Taraclia and Soroca and the military center of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. Ten mayors’ offices in Cahul district, nine mayors’ offices in Donduseni district and eight mayors’ offices in Floresti district recruited no young people. The number of military men in reserve because of health problems decreased to 33% from 75% last year. The costs for the treatment of the servicemen are fully covered by the Ministry of Defense. “In a year, they go home healthy,” Eduard Ohladchuc said. About 3,000 young men were called up last spring.
