More than 4,000 persons who drove faster than the legal limit have been penalized during a week, within an operation conducted by the National Patrolling Inspectorate, IPN reports.

According to a communique of the Inspectorate, speeding or driving at speed unadjusted to the weather conditions is the main factor that generates road accidents with tragic consequences. The operation “Speed”, carried out between February 23 and March 2, was aimed at sensitizing the drivers and, as a result, at reducing the number of traffic accidents with tragic consequences.

During a week, the patrolling inspectors and the operators monitoring traffic online imposed fines of 400 to 1,000 lei and five penalty points on 4,029 drivers.

The 85 road accidents caused by speeding that happened so far this year resulted in 18 deaths.
