Pandemic flu causes new victims

The pandemic influenza A (H1N1) killed one more pregnant woman and her fetus. Two days ago, it took the lives of a 29-year-old woman from Durlesti town and of her fetus of about seven months, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the National Scientific Practical Center of Preventive Medicine, this time the pandemic flu caused the death of a 23-year-old woman in the fifth month of pregnancy from Vulcanesti. The woman sought medical assistance too late, when she already had acute bilateral pneumonia. On January 16, she was admitted into the Vulcanesti District Hospital in a serious condition. She had received intensive treat treatment during five days, but her condition did not improve. Thus, she was transferred to the Mother and Child Center in Chisinau and then to the Phtiziopneumology Dispensary. On January 21, she died leaving a child aged only one year and a half. Specialists of the Ministry of Health warn that the pregnant women are very vulnerable to pandemic flu and recommend that they take the vaccine, which is absolutely harmless to the mother and the fetus. Forty-one blood samples were sent to the National Virusological Laboratory for examination on January 21. The virus was detected in three cases. Seven samples are being tested. A number of 425 samples have been tested this year. The presence of the virus was confirmed in 77 cases. The pandemic flu has caused 14 deaths since the start of this year, including of two children aged 5 and 11.
