It is one year of the visit paid by Mayor General of Bucharest Sorin Oprescu to Moldova, but the promise to finance the laying out of a park in Chisinau remained on paper. Officials of the Chisinau City Hall said they made repeated phone calls to Bucharest, inquiring about the promised aid, but without results.
Contacted by IPN, the head of the Foreign Relations, Regional Cogeneration and European Integration Division Gabriela Ciumac said that the protocol rules prevent asking that the promised works be carried out. That’s why they didn’t send an official letter on behalf of Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca to his counterpart from Bucharest Sorin Oprescu. Every time they phone their colleagues in Bucharest, they are told that a decision hasn’t been yet taken and the causes are not known.
Gabriela Ciumac underlined that the first proposal to lay out a park in Chisinau with the assistance of the authorities of Bucharest was submitted in 2008, when the post of mayor was held by Adriean Videanu.
Head of the Green Areas Association Eliferii Haruta said that three plots were identified at the request of the Romanian side. There were sent the designs worked out by Moldovan specialists, but no answer came from the Romanian colleagues.
On October 16, 2012, Sorin Oprescu made a visit to Chisinau at the invitation of his counterpart Dorin Chirtoaca. He said he came to Moldova’s capital accompanied by specialists of the Bucharest City Hall in order to initiate the construction of a park in Chisinau.
