From next year, the judges will have higher salaries. This is provided in one of the bills of the anticorruption package of five laws that was adopted by Parliament on December 23, IPN reports.
The pay of a judge of a common law court will be equal to three official average salaries (4,225 lei in 2014), which is almost 13,000 lei. A Court of Appeals judge will receive a salary of four average salaries, while of a judge of the Supreme Court of Justice and the Constitutional Court will be over 21,000 lei. The presidents and vice presidents of the courts will receive salary bonuses of up to 20%.
Under another law, the candidates for the post of judge will have to take the polygraph test. The decision to test the professional integrity of a functionary will be taken by the National Anticorruption Center without informing the institution’s administration. Those who will not pass the test will be liable to penalties. The dismissal becomes obligatory if the test is failed two times.
The anticorruption package introduces the notion of ‘extended confiscation’ of property that will be applied to convicted persons, and punishments for illegal enrichment. The fines for violating the legislation will rise to up to 200,000 lei.
The law on disciplinary punishment was removed from the agenda and will be examined in the next session of Parliament. The head of the legal commission on appointments and immunities Raisa Apolschii said the bill should be improved as some of its provisions overlap each other.
