Pavel Cebanu reelected as Moldovan Football Federation head
Pavel Cebanu was reelected as president of the Moldovan Football Federation (FMF) for the fourth term by a majority of votes in the Federation’s 11th ordinary congress that was held on February 3.
As many as 178 delegates voted for him. Eight delegates voted against, while two abstained. Pavel Cebanu was the only candidate for the presidency of the FMF. In order not to break the statutes of the FMF, the congress did not allow Radu Rebeja to run in elections, though he was initially registered as a candidate.
“I comply with the decision of the congress. I was expecting something like this. Everything ran according to a well-planned scenario,” said Radu Rebeja.
“These elections were like a football match. He now knows the result. He lost. Radu approached and congratulated me. We must continue work, especially as regards the construction of a national stadium,” said Pavel Cebanu.
The appointment of Ion Testemitanu as vice president of the FMF was the only major change in the Federation’s administration. The former captain of the national football team replaced Radu Rebeja and will be in charge of the national teams.
Sfantul Gheorghe Suruceni manager Valeriu Renita was dismissed from the post of member of the FMF Executive Committee before the expiration of his term. Some of the delegates were close to start a fight and the police intervened to calm things down.
The event was attended by Prime Minister Vlad Filat and UEFA technical director Ioan Angelo Lupescu.
Pavel Cebanu has headed the Moldovan Football Federation since February 1997.
