Local elected officials representing the PCRM wrote an open letter to Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca and AIE local councilors, asking them to ban the unionist march scheduled for Sunday, September 16, Info-Prim Neo reports. “September 16 may become a day of street massacres because the law enforcement bodies aren’t able to ensure public order”, claim the Communist councilors. In a previous press release, the Civic Platform “Action 2012” announced that about 10,000 people would participate in the march and asked the Ministry of the Interior to protect their bodily integrity and their freedom of expression. “We hope that on September 16, we won’t witness more scenes with the Communists and their allies instigating to hate and violence, attacking with eggs, stones and petards”, stressed the representatives of “Action 2012”, referring to the incidents during the previous marches in Cahul and Balti. In turn, PCRM councilors warn the Municipality that a number of public associations and extra-parliamentary parties, which declared their attachment to statehood positions, announced they would not allow the march and called upon their supporters to gather in the street to thwart the unionist manifestation. PCRM local elected officials stressed that the events on August 5 in Balti were enough proof of the law enforcement bodies incapacity to ensure public order and the people’s safety when the crowd on both sides was full of aggressive provokers, hungry for violence. “It’s obvious that on September 16, the so-called “march of unification” in Chisinau will end, in the best case scenario, as it did in Balti, with an out of control situation, mass disorders and violence on both sides. We ask the Chisinau Municipality leaders to thwart the provokers intentions and to ban any mass actions in the center of the capital on September 16, 2012”, reads the letter. So far, the Civic Platform “Action 2012” organized to marches in support of Moldova’s unification with Romania, in Balti and Cahul. In both cases, they clashed with counter-protesters.
