Pedestrian streets might appear in Chisinau
The municipality is considering transforming three streets in Chisinau into pedestrian zones, as announced by Deputy Mayor Nistor Grozavu. The official didn't say when this might happen, but mentioned that the proposal would be debated with civil society in October, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The three zones are: Varlaam Street, the segment confined between the Central Market and Pushkin Street; Veronica Micle Street, between Vasile Alecsandri and Pushkin Street; and Grigore Vieru Boulevard.
“Pedestrian streets should have accommodations for trade, offices, so that any pedestrian is able to visit a place for rest within a 10 minutes walk. At the same time, architecture should be specific. For example, on Veronica Micle Street, except for Luceafarul Theater and two-three other buildings, there are practically no buildings with specific functions. On Grigore Vieru Boulevard the urban plan should be changed as well”, said the deputy mayor.
Alongside the three proposed streets, it is suggested that Stefan cel Mare Boulevard should become a pedestrian zone as well, but only at weekends.
