People visit new Parliament building on doors open day

Tens of people came to visit the restored building of the Parliament during a doors open day on Saturday. They expressed hope that now that the Parliament has been repaired, the laws will be “renovated” as well, IPN reports.

“If they prepared such work conditions for themselves, let them make better living conditions for the people”, said a woman who came with her two-year-old son. She complained that the people have financial problems and lack decent housing and wages. “The welfare offered by the state for raising the child is fiddling. We are renting a room. The wages are too low. I don't see a future if this goes on”, she said.

A man remarked that the new building has everything needed for the MPs to work better. “There are good conditions: comfortable seats, elevators, a cafeteria, it's warm and cozy. We want the MPs to be closer to the needs of the people. They should “renovate” the laws just like the building”, said the visitor.

Ion Negura, member of the first Parliament, hopes that today's MPs will strive to make things better. He warned that the main impediment for efficient government is the fight between parties. “Let's hope that the Parliament will enjoy a fruitful activity in its new home”, said Negura.

Speaker Igor Corman, who accompanied the visitors during the tour of the Parliament, was happy to see so many interested people. “The citizens should know more about how the Parliament works. We'll have several information bureaus in some sections, where the staff will be there to provide information about the workings of the Legislative”, stated Corman.

The lawmakers moved to the renovated building on February 13 in time for the opening sitting of the spring-summer session.
