Person detained, several more suspected of committing act of terrorism in central square
A person was detained and several others are investigated in connection with the act of terrorism committed in the Great National Assembly Square on Chisinau's Day. The information was provided by the head of the General Police Commissariat's Public Order Division Iurie Crijanovshi at Monday's meeting of the municipal services and divisions.
Crijanovschi said several persons are suspected of involvement in the explosion of the RG-42 grenade, but refused to give more details so as not to prejudice the investigation. The young man whose composite sketch was made according to the descriptions of eyewitnesses was arrested.
Asked by the Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca if the explosion was somehow connected with the attack on four young men by a group of 15 persons on Banulescu-Bodoni St the same evening, Crijanovschi said it was not, adding that the given case is also under investigation.
The mayor asked all the services involved to be transparent in their investigations. “The October 14 act of terrorism is the most serious incident after the proclamation of Moldova's independence,” he said.
Dorin Chirtoaca instructed the Health Division to get involved so that all the victims of the act of terrorism benefit from medical services even if they do not have residence visa in Chisinau or health policy. He said that all the victims will receive by a sum of money in compensation.
Forty-two persons were injured in the explosion in the central square. Fifteen of them are still at the Emergency Hospital, three at Valentin Ignatenco Hospital, while one at Saint Trinity Hospital. That was the third grenade explosion in Chisinau this year.
