A commemorative plaque will be placed on the façade of the building located at 1/5 Mihai Basarab St in Chisinau, where painter Mihai Grecu lived. The Government accepted the Ministry of Culture’s relevant proposal based on the decision of the Chisinau Municipal Council, which was taken on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the plastic artist, IPN reports.
Mihai Grecu, together with Mihai Petric and Valentina Rusu-Ciobanu, founded the Bessarabian modernism in painting. Despite the pressure faced in time, Mihai Grecu remained faithful to the Romanian traditions in painting. The artist died in 1998.
The costs associated with the installation of the commemorative plaque will be covered by the Ministry of Culture and the Chisinau City Hall.
