About 4,000 spectators from the diaspora watched the play “The star without a name” in the production of “Mihai Eminescu” National Theatre within a European tour that is part of the governmental campaign “Martsishor Worldwide”. The Government’s state secretary Ana Calinici said that the achieved results met the expectations and spectators’ comments proved that the state must continue to organize cultural activities in the diaspora, IPN reports.
The official told a news conference that the tour was organized in cities where higher numbers of Moldovans settled, in close cooperation with diplomatic missions. “It is important for us to keep in touch with the Moldovans living abroad. It is important because we have also young generations who are formed there and who often speak a foreign language and it is good to present the national culture, the Romanian language to them. I’m glad that together with the Ministry of Culture, we managed to bring such a fascinating, important play to the attention of the public,” said Ana Calinici.
The play “The star without a name”, a classic universal Romanian text written by Mikhail Sebastian, produced under the direction of Alexandru Cozub, gathered together spectators from both banks of the Prut River. There was not only the diaspora of the Republic of Moldova, but also the diaspora of Romania in all the halls. Important diplomats, mayors were also present, noted Petru Hadârcă, director general of “Mihai Eminescu” National Theatre.
“Our artists are known both in the diaspora of the Republic of Moldova and in the diaspora of Romania and, in general, the diaspora is already mixed and culture is one,” said Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan. The official also said that there is artistic potential that must be harnessed and there are spectators who are ready to fill the halls and travel hundreds of kilometers to reach a cultural event. What is missing today is the system that would make the connection between the artistic potential and the spectator. It is an area that needs to be developed, the minister added.
The International Festival “Martsishor Worldwide” is part of the governmental project “Cultural Diplomacy”, which was launched on March 6 in Cascais, Portugal. Other cities followed, such as Frankfurt, Madrid, Milan, London, and Brussels.
