The police arrested a man and a teenager who are thought to be responsible for two separate false bomb threats at the train stations in Straseni and Ungheni, announced Chiril Motpan, spokesperson for the Interior Ministry, at a news conference.
The first suspect is a 49-year-old man with mental disabilities who stopped a train on the Chisinau-Moscow route which was stationing in Ungheni.
In the second case, a 14-year-old boy called the Straseni train station saying he would blow it up unless he received a ransom of 10,000 Russian rubles and a pistol. Now his parents face a fine.
“For such offenses the law provides only for fines of up to 500 conventional units or 240 hours of community, or 2 to 3 years' imprisonment. But, to my memory, I have never heard of someone being jailed for such offenses ”, said Chiril Motpan.
On Monday, February 28, three bomb threats were reported almost simultaneously at the train stations in Straseni, Ungheni and Calarasi .
The person responsible for the bomb scare in Calarasi hasn't been identified yet. According to the prosecutors, an apparently real hand grenade wrapped in a piece of paper was found on the rails, but they say it is no danger to a train.
