The police arrested a man aged 22 from Chisinau who is suspected of being the author of the false bomb threat at the Chisinau airport at the beginning of this year. The young man will be investigated for misinforming about an act of terrorism, IPN reports.
According to the Border Police, the mobile phone used to inform about the planting of an explosive device at the airport was found at the young man’s home. The man is not officially employed, but he worked as distributor of publicity materials. He said that his acts were based on particular misunderstandings with police employees.
The head of the press service of the Chisinau Police Division Adrian Jovmir said that eight criminal cases were started last year over deliberate misinformation about acts of terrorism. Two cases were closed because the suspects were not mentally healthy. Four of the cases involved minors, while one person phoned from jail.
The persons found guilty of deliberate misinformation about acts of terrorism face a fine of 2,000 to 4,000 lei, community service or up to two years in jail.
