A senior criminal police inspector from Calarasi was sentenced for asking money from a woman who was begging in the center of Chisinau for not holding her accountable for begging, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
This March, the inspector has received 1,200 lei from the woman in his personal car. He was caught in April, immediately after receiving the next tranche of €300.
The Calarasi court sentenced the police officer to five years in jail, but put him on probation for a one-year-period. By the same sentence, the policeman was banned from holding posts in the bodies of the Ministry of the Interior for a three-year period and was fined 20,000 lei.
The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
