Policeman who shot real bullets identified
The Prosecutor General's Office (PG) launched an investigation into the attempted murder committed by a masked police officer on the night of April 8, 2009, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a communique, the PG says the police officer shot from an AK rifle at a car that stopped at the intersection of Stefan cel Mare Blvd. and Serghei Lazo St to give way to a group of officers of the special police brigade “Fulger”. The bullets penetrated the hood and wind screen of the car in which the Murzac family was traveling.
According to the results of the ballistic examination, the bullets were real. Thus, it was confirmed that real bullets were used besides blanks that night, the communique says.
On March 30, the Supreme Council of the Prosecutors decided to dismiss prosecutor Sergiu Canter and demote Iurie Ghervas, the senior prosecutor of the Buiucani Prosecutor's Office, where Canter worked, for closing the legal case opened on the basis of the complaint filed by the Murzac family before it was sent to court.
So far, the PG received 108 complaints about mistreatment and use of torture during the April 2009 events. A number of 54 cases were started over them. Sixteen cases opened against 28 police officers were sent to court.
