Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici requested Minister of Information and Communication Technology Pavel Filip to explain why a period of 30 days is needed for issuing identity cards, IPN reports.
“I received explanations about the rise in the prices of passports, but I cannot understand why the basic term is 30 days. I want exact information about the period of time during which a passport is made. I have the impression that this term was set long intentionally so that the people pay more money for a shorter period,” the Premier said in the June 3 meeting of the Cabinet.
Chiril Gaburici also expressed his dissatisfaction about the method of setting the prices of other services. “I don’t think it is right for the prices of these services to be set by order of the director of the Information Resources Center “Registru”. The services are intended for the people and their goal must not be to earn money. The prices cannot be changed overnight, especially now that an increasing number of people need biometric passports to go abroad to vacation,” he stated.
On May 20, “Registru” increased the prices of biometric passports. A biometric passport made during 30 days costs 850 lei, as against 750 lei earlier. The price of a passport issued in 15 days is 1,060 lei, as opposed to 950 lei before, while of that issued during a day is 1,700 lei, in contrast to 1,520 lei earlier.
