Proceeds of Laima Vaikule’s concert reach beneficiaries

The organizers of the charity concert “Revive Moldova”, given by the famous Latvian singer Laima Vaikule, transmitted the proceeds to the Mother and Child Institute. The 353,500 lei were donated on behalf of Edelweiss Foundation to the executive director Lara Moraru on April 13, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the Foundation.

The event was attended by Laima Vaikule, who on this occasion visited the admission section, maternity wards and rooms for mothers and newborns to see the conditions in the hospital that will be renovated and outfitted with modern medical equipment with money collected within the campaign “Revive Moldova”. The singer said she was impressed by the difficult conditions in which the doctors and medical staff work at the Mother and Child Institute and announced that she will also make a donation. “These doctors are real heroes. My donation is like a drop in the sea, but it is a start. If everyone donates even a small amount, the necessary money will be collected,” said the artist.

Together with Laima Vaikule’s donation, there was collected 2,322,826.32 lei for the Mother and Child Institute. This is over 12% of the funds needed to modernize the maternity hospital within the campaign “Revive Moldova”.

The Institute’s director general Stefan Gatcan expressed recognition and thanked everyone for the provided support in the name of the doctors of the maternity hospital.

The campaign to raise funds for the Chisinau Mother and Child Institute was launched within the charity concert that involved Laima Vaikule and Moldovan singers Tania Cerga and Catalin Josan on April 12. The concert that brought together over 1,100 people was the first event of the nationwide campaign that will last for 12 months.

In a welcoming and support video message, President Nicolae Timofti encouraged all the people of good faith to support the campaign. “Such events are necessary and beneficial for the whole society. I call on everyone to contribute to the repair of this medical institution. I thank all those who launched this initiative. I’m sure that we will succeed together,” said the head of state.

Edelweiss Foundation founder Vlad Plahotniuc said that he already transmitted 1,856,913 lei to the Institute, which represents 10% of the necessary sum. “I’m honored to make this donation first of all because last year I paid a number of visits to the Institute and saw in what conditions the women give birth there. The care for the mothers and children defines us as people of good faith and motivates us,” he stated.

During the concert, Tania Cerga and Catalin Josan announced that they also donate a part of their honorariums to the maternity hospital.

Those who want to join the campaign “Revive Moldova” and to help the Chisinau Mother and Child Institute can transfer money to the bank account MOLDMD2X328 at Moldindconbank or to 9944 by SMSes (one SMS costs 5 lei, VAT included). The objective of the campaign is to collect 18,563,913.38 lei (about 1 million euros), which will be used to repair and modernize the maternity hospital in six stages.

Edelweiss and the Mother and Child Institute signed a cooperation partnership aimed at modernizing the Chisinau maternity hospital, where about 6,000 children are born annually. Approximately 33,000 people are treated annually at the Institute, with 88,000 children undergoing medical examination there. Founded 31 years ago, the Institute records the highest number of newborns among all the national maternity hospitals.
