The ceremony to celebrate the Day of Victory against fascism at the Memorial Complex “Eternity” will start at 9am. The event will involve senior state officials, such as President Igor Dodon, Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, IPN reports.
At the same hour, the Party of Communists and the National Veterans Council will stage a concert of military and patriotic music at the Monument to Fighters for the Soviet Power situated near the Gaudeamus Cinema. After the concert, those attending will go to the Memorial Complex “Eternity” to lay flowers at the graves of heroes killed in World War II.
The Party of Socialists will mount aVictory March starting at 10am. The column will set off from the Triumphal Arch in central Chisinau and will move along the streets Banulescu-Bodoni, Alexei Mateevici and Vasile Alecsandri up to the Memorial Complex “Eternity”. The march will involve President Igor Dodon.
At the same hour, the Democratic Party will launch the activities dedicated to the Victory Day and Europe Day in the square of the Metropolitan Cathedral “God’s Birth”. The program includes: serving of soldier’s porridge, brass band music, training demonstrations with rescue dogs, asphalt drawing, folk music and traditions, the round dance of friendship and peace and surprises from master Eugen Doga. A concert with the involvement of Irina Rimes, “Blue”, Delia, Thomas Anders of Modern Talking will start in the central square of Chisinau at 7pm.
The National Patrol Inspectorate, in concert with the Traffic Police Directorate of the General Inspectorate of Romanian Police, will stage a common event to inform drivers about the risks of speeding and sleeping while driving at the border crossing points Giurgiulesti – Galati, Leuseni – Albita, Sculeni – Sculeni and Costesti –Stanca, between 10am and 12 noon.
The Association “UNIREA - ODIP” at 12:10pm will stage an event to commemorate the Romanian heroes killed in battle at the Cemetery of Romanian Heroes situated at 17 Decebal St.
In connection with the planned events, the section of Stefan cel Mare Blvd between the streets Banulescu-Bodoni and Pushkin will be closed to traffic from 6am until late evening. Traffic restrictions will also be imposed in the area around the Memorial Complex “Eternity” and along the itinerary of the Victory March staged by the Socialists.
On the occasion of May 9, 1,717 persons will receive lump-sum payments in financial assistance. The participants in World War II and persons who remained with disabilities as a result of this war will get by 10,000 lei, the persons related to the participants – by 5,000 lei, the surviving wives (husbands) of the participants, who cannot work or are not married – by 1,000 lei.
