Program of activities on Memory Day

The events dedicated to the Memory Day celebrated on March 2 will start at 9am with services at a number of churches all over the country. The ceremony that will be held at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Chisinau will be attended by Acting President Marian Lupu and Prime Minister Vlad Filat, Info-Prim Neo reports. After the service, at 11.00, senior government officials and participants in the war for defending Moldova’s independence and integrity will lay flowers at the monument to Stefan the Great. A festive march will start at 11.15. The column will set off from the Great National Assembly Square and go along Stefan cel Mare Blvd. up to Ismail St and then will head for the Memorial Complex “Eternity”, where a solemn meeting will be held. At 13.00, the participants will go to the Central Cemetery located on Armeneasca St, at Saint Lazarus Cemetery on Doina St and other cemeteries to lay flowers and remember those who were killed in battle. Flowers will be also laid at the Monument to Police Officers who Died on Duty in “Valea Morilor” Park. At 14.30, about 800 veterans will take part in a commemoration meal at the Army House. Commemoration meals will be also held in districts. The activities dedicated to the Memory Day are organized by the Government in cooperation with veterans unions. Almost 6 million lei was allocated from the state budget for making commemorative medals and covering other related costs.
