The Ministry of Education and Research has approved a new framework plan for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year, introducing a significant change in the organization of high school education. One of the main innovations is that high schools will be able to choose between a standard framework plan and an alternative, innovative framework plan for 10th grade. According to the Ministry, the new program will give students more freedom in selecting their subjects to create a personalized educational path.
Starting September 1, 2025, high schools across the country are invited to participate in the pilot phase of this new framework plan, which includes a mix of mandatory and optional subjects, expanding educational opportunities. Under the new regulations, students will study six mandatory subjects for a total of 17 hours, choose 14 hours of optional subjects, and have two hours of elective courses.
New subject options include philosophy, psychology, political science, economics and entrepreneurship, legal socialization, and others - aimed at equipping young people with a broad range of knowledge and skills applicable across various fields, according to IPN.
High schools interested in adopting this alternative framework plan are required to submit a letter of intent by April 30 of this year to begin program implementation on September 1. Both public and private high schools can participate in the pilot project.
