The quality of gasoline and diesel fuel will be checked not only in customs posts, as until now, but also at gas stations, Iuliana Dragalin, secretary of state at the Ministry of Economy, stated in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, commenting on protesting drivers’ objections to the quality of fuels, IPN reports.
“This will enable us to compare two results. This report will be made public annually and will be transparent both for the institution and for the citizens,” said the state secretary.
Energy expert Victor Parlicov said the problem related to fuel prices derives from the legislation. This appeared now because the international fuel prices until recently were very low and the Moldovan citizens could pay these. Now that the quotations on international stock exchanges grow, the retail prices also grow and the people are dissatisfied.
Andrei Adam, of the National Agency for Energy Regulation, said the institution he represents sets the highest price that the oil companies can post. In the competition environment, the companies are free to offer the price they afford and competition starts here. “Competition reached a level when not only the corporate clients are covered, but also private individuals and offers are made on the weekend,” he stated.
Sergiu Ungureanu, who represented the protesting drivers, said the people took to the streets spontaneously, being mobilized through social networking sites, because they disagree with the level of fuel prices. “The people’s dissatisfaction is due to the fact that these price raises affect everyone’s budget, including of those who do not drive a car and are not directly involved in the transport sector. Everyone is affected because all the products will rise in price after the rise in fuel prices,” he stated.
