Radio Moldova respected legal and deontological norms in covering election campaign, report
Radio Moldova covered widely the electoral process and respected the legal and deontological norms. The public radio station allocated airtime to a large number of politicians, parties and independent candidates. The conclusions were formulated by the Electronic Press Association (APEL) in a report on how Teleradio-Moldova Company covered the election campaign for the June 5 local elections, which was presented in a news conference on June 8, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to APEL expert Valentin Dorogan, Radio Moldova’s news programs covered 41 personalized political players. Igor Dodon, Mihai Godea, Valentina Buliga and Dorin Chirtoaca appeared in the news bulletins most often. “It is surprising that the PLDM leader Vlad Filat was present in the news the least,” said Valentin Dorogan.
The expert also said that most of the 41 political players were presented in a neutral context in the electoral news on Radio Moldova, but Dorin Chirtoaca, Igor Dodon and Mihai Godea appeared in all the contexts – positive, negative and neutral.
Twenty parties were presented in the stations’ news programs in the monitored period – May 1- June 5, mainly the PCRM, PL, PLDM and PDM.
Radio Moldova broadcast 15 electoral education programs that involved three categories of protagonists – state functionaries, experts and ordinary people. The politicians were not included.
The monitoring was performed with financial support from Soros Foundation Moldova within the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections.
