The police found a record amount of mercury at the place of a person living in Buiucani district of Chisinau. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the about 60 kg of mercury were brought from Gorlovka town of the Ukrainian region Donetsk, IPN reports.

A number of searches were performed at private individuals and legal entities. There were identified ten metallic containers with about 5-6 kg of mercury in each. The criminal case over the illegal activities of a criminal transfrontier group was started on October 27, 2015. These are suspected of smuggling and using radioactive and toxic materials in very large quantities.

When searching legal entities that acted as accomplices of the criminal group, the police found documents with evident signs of falsification showing that the persons studied to get a driver’s license.
