The reforms in education do not make the projected direct impact on lessons. The authorities focus on big problems, but should start with the small ones. Only the graduates with a low average grade in the Baccalaureate exams go to teacher training universities, while the profession of teacher now does not have prospects. The assessments were made in the annual conference of teachers from Chisinau municipality. The school managers and teachers said the changes should start with the improvement of the reputation of the profession of teacher and with the preparation of new specialists, IPN reports.
Natalia Timofei, director of the Theoretical High School “Mihail Kogalniceanu”, said the education program must be simplified. The children will be more eager to study when they have to study not everything, but what is necessary. “The state must motivate the teachers by free courses and appropriate salaries,” she said.
The head of Kindergarten No. 40 Maria Cristofor said the specialists from kindergartens are the most disfavored, especially as regards salaries. The Ministry of Education should set teaching norms and salaries for educators similar to those for primary school teachers.
The quality of students’ knowledge depends, first of all, on the teacher’s professionalism, said the principal of the Theoretical High School “Constantin Sibirschi” Pavel Macari. “If the teachers had been better prepared, the results in the Baccalaureate exams wouldn’t have been so bad,” he stated.
The teachers complained that most of the grants allocated within European and international projects go to district education institutions. But they forget about the education institutions from towns. The teachers also believe that the authorities should review the consumption norms in schools, which remained unchanged since the Soviet period. They every year inform the authorities about the problems they face and submit proposals to the Ministry, but the expected reactions do not come.
Minister of Education Maia Sandu assured the teachers that their proposals will be taken into account when considering development plans and strategies in the future. She assured the teachers that the remuneration and promotion of teachers are a priority for the Ministry.
