Renovated train arrives in Chisinau

The first Soviet-type train that was sent to Romania’s Pascani for renovation was presented on June 5. It will start work in about a month after it is tested by employees of Moldova’s Railways (CFM), who attended special training courses given by Romanian colleagues, Info-Prim Neo reports. The train with four railcars was completely renovated. The body of the train and the seats were changed. There were set up bio-toilets. After it is tested, more trains will be sent for modernization. They will be equipped with a Wi-fi system and will travel at a higher speed, depending on the capacity of the engine. The railcars will have TV sets and air conditioning. According to CFM press officer Daniela Juganaru, the train has a capacity of 265 places – 32 seats of the first class, 83 seats of the second class, and 100 seats of the third class. The renovated train has also 45 places for persons with disabilities. It will travel on an interurban route and the tickets will cost dearer. The Ministry of Transport said the renovation of the trains costs less than the new trains. The prices depend on the comfort degree and the traction of the locomotive. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is ready to provide financial support in the form of a loan for modernizing the trains and railway infrastructure in Moldova.
