Rescuers finished the intervention works and took away the unstable constructions from the floors of the apartment building located at 11/5 Moscovei Blvd that was affected by a blast on October 6. The uninterrupted operation conducted by employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergencies lasted for five days and was completed in the evening of October 10, IPN reports.

The rescuers cleaned the reinforced concrete slabs from the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th floors and recovered a part of the possessions of dwellers from under the debris and accompanied these to their apartments on the less affected floors.

The blast claimed four lives, including of a woman aged 30 and her four-year-old son. A man aged 77 died in the hospital, while the body of his wife was taken out of the debris later. These were citizens of Israel who came to visit their son why lives on another stair of the same block.

After the explosion, a number of persons needed medical care. These include a fireman who is recovering at the National Military Hospital of the Ministry of the Interior. A woman in whose apartment the blast allegedly incurred remains in the hospital in a serious state.

Contacted by IPN, press officer of the Emergency Medicine Institute Cristina Gorea said the woman is in the intensive care section in a serious state and is connected to a mechanical ventilator. She underwent several operations to have several fractures stabilized. She also suffered severe burns.

Criminal proceedings were instituted over the blast. The investigation into this case is conducted based on Article 149 of the Penal Code - killing out of imprudence that carries a penalty of at most six years in jail - and on Article 293 - violation of the rules of keeping, transporting and using highly flammable or corrosive substances that is punished with a fine of 42,500 to 67,500 lei, community service or up to three years in jail.
