The inhabitants of Cealic village of Taraclia district are collecting signatures in order to discharge their mayor Valentina Caipac. Local councilor Veaceslav Cambur has told IPN that the people are tired of the wrongdoings committed by the mayor, who does not want to cooperate with the people, to hold consultations and to put her signature on important projects for the settlement. The mayor denies the accusations.

Valentina Caipac was elected mayor in 2011, when she ran as an independent candidate. Veaceslav Cambur said the problems in the village started after the elections. A part of the forest was illegally cut. Wood for heating the kindergarten was purchased with difficulty. An initiative group was set up in the village for organizing a referendum to dismiss the mayor. There were collected about 200 signatures.

As to the new local elections of next May, where a new council of the village is to be elected, Veaceslav Cambur said it’s not true that the local councilors didn’t hold meetings. The proceedings of the meetings didn’t reach the Cahul Chancellery because of the mayor and the secretary.

The deputy head of Taraclia district Fiodor Truhanov said the local council includes nine persons, who cannot come to terms with the mayor. “We tried to call meetings with the mayor and the villagers and to discuss the problems, but the mayor never came,” he stated.

Earlier, the Central Election Commission decided that new local elections will be held in Cealic on May 11, 2014 to choose the Cealic communal council. The council was dissolved because it adopted no decision during six consecutive months. Fiodor Truhanov said that besides these elections, there should be held a referendum to dismiss the mayor.

Contacted by IPN, Valentina Caipac refused to comment on the situation, saying she will issue a letter to the press, where she will explain the reasons for the misunderstandings with the local councilors.

Cealic has slightly over 1,600 residents, about 600 of whom have the right to vote.
