On the occasion of the Professional Day of Motorists and Road Workers, representatives of the road infrastructure and transport sector were awarded merit diplomas by the Government and the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure, IPN reports.
Attending the event, Prime Minster Iurie Leanca said the quality of the services provided by the national companies has improved, but the executive continues to take measures to train specialists in the area of road building. “The tender contest to select the contractor for repairing the Hancesti-Cimislia road was won by two local companies. It is a confirmation that the technical and professional capacities of the Moldovan companies have increased. Specialties to train road workers have been introduced at three vocational schools this year,” stated the Premier.
“Our goal is to become more competitive by creating a network of good roads and eliminating the bureaucratic barriers, to significantly reduce the length of trips and to have a safe transportation system with lower associated costs,” said Deputy Minister of Transport Vladimir Cebotari.
He noted that the pace of repairing the network of roads in Moldova has accelerated. “Almost 400 kilometers of national roads have been repaired this year. About 200 km of them are new building sites,” stated Vladimir Cebotari.
The Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure manages more than 9,000 km of roads, 6,000 of which are local roads. The Government augmented the sum allocated for rehabilitating roads from 241 million lei in 2009 to 1.3 billion lei in 2014.
The Professional Day of Motorists and Road Workers is marked on the last Sunday of October.
