Romania to allocate €15m to Moldova for environment protection

Romania will support environmental projects to the value of €15 million in Moldova based on the agreement between the Government of Moldova and the Government of Romania concerning the implementation of the technical and financial assistance program with the €100 million allocated in non-reimbursable assistance, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of the Environment, the money will be used to implement projects to protect the area against floods, to remove and reduce the effects of natural disasters caused by floods, to set up hydrographical reservoirs, to ensure ecological reconstruction and conserve biodiversity, to build water infrastructure, integrated waste management systems etc.

“This is non-reimbursable assistance for environmental projects, which forms part of the financial support provided by the Government of Romania. The plans are great and a goal is to deal with climate change,” said Minister of the Environment Sergiu Palihovici.

The first tranche will be disbursed by the end of this year, announced the state secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests of Romania Anne Juganaru, who took part in an international conference held in Chisinau on the occasion of World Environments Day.
