25 girls from the country’s regions presented on Monday their community projects, as part of the Future Empowerment through Experience (FETE) program, reports Info-Prim Neo. The projects were implemented with the financial contribution of the FETE program, as well as with the means collected at fundraisers organized by the participants. The projects aimed informing community members, through seminars and meetings, about different issues; later, concrete steps in solving the issues, through voluntary actions, should be taken. Most of the projects were concerned with the scarcity of playgrounds and sports grounds in the regions. Doina Morohai and Sorina Zdragus, authors of the project titled “Respect the park! Choose to act responsibly”, mentioned that especially now, during summer, residents of the Stefanesti village, Floresti district, do not have a recreation zone and this is an issue faced by other settlements in the region too. The idea of the project is creating a “relaxation oasis” by refurbishing the local park. Another participant, Alion Catan from Ciuciuleni, Hancesti district, promoted the necessity of practicing sports through the project entitled “A sane mind in a sane body”; the practice of it is currently impossible without repairing the school’s sports field. The girls claim that the instruction week spent at Vadul lui Voda, in October 2011, was determinant in the choice of the topic. “We are currently looking for sponsors, in order to continue our activity in the following years. Through participation, the girls have improved their critical thinking skills and got to know the current development opportunities. The lack of opportunities is a shame, since there is a multitude of open doors around the world”, stated the FETE program coordinator, Shannon Reed. Organizers of the project’s exhibition were volunteers for the Peace Corps and NGO “Generatia Pro”. The activity itself was sponsored the US Department of State.
