Members of the Russian Youth League distributed St George Ribbons in the center of Chisinau on April 20. According to the organizers, the action precedes the activities that will be held to celebrate the victory against fascism in World War II, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The organizers set up a tent near the Triumphal Arch, raised the League’s flags and put on military clothes.
Ana Pocitari, a member of the Russian Youth League, said that about 500 ribbons will be shared during a day. On May 8, they will stage motor races, roundtable meetings and will stretch a St George Ribbon that will be 365 meters long. Veterans will be invited to a waltz.
The black and orange ribbon attached to the Saint George Cross appeared in the period of the tsarist Russia, being a symbol of the Russia army. At the beginning of the Soviet period, it disappeared from the public area, but reappeared in 1941.
