Searches at “Registru” and Bureau for Migration and Asylum

The National Anticorruption Centers and prosecutors are carrying out 11 searches within a case of corruption that involves employees of the state-run Information Resources Center “Registru” and the Bureau for Migration and Asylum of the Ministry of the Interior. Press officer of the National Anticorruption Center Angela Cibotaru-Starinschi said a number of chiefs are suspected of abuse of power and falsification of public acts as they authorized the issuing of passports to persons who broke the law, IPN reports.

Five persons were escorted to the National Anticorruption Centers for being questioned. One of these – the acting head of the Comrat documents issuing section - was arrested. The other four persons are: a division head of the Bureau for Migration and Asylum; the head of the citizenship section of “Registru”, the deputy head of the passport control section of “Registru”, and an intermediary.

The operation is performed in concert with the internal security service of “Registru”.
