Sergiu Prodan: Media subsidization will not influence editorial policy

The allocation of state funding for the media will not influence the editorial policy of the institutions. The statement was made by Culture Minister Sergiu Prodan. and was made during the Media Forum. According to the official, the subsidization process will be carried out transparently, IPN reports.

"This subsidization must be transparent, understood by everyone. And under no circumstances should it give the possibility to influence the content, the editorial policy. Editorial policy must be influenced by legislation, the rules of the game, self-regulation and common sense", the minister said.

The state should only intervene economically and support media institutions. "State funding does not come as a purchase of political position or subservience to the ruling party, to the government in general. It really comes as a form of support when we realize the shape of the media market. This market is changing rapidly, already advertising no longer works the way it worked 10 years ago, not even 5 years ago. We must find the possibility to change things", said Minister Sergiu Prodan.

The Ministry of Culture is in the process of collecting proposals for priority areas of media subsidization. The collected proposals will be coordinated with the Council of Experts and then approved by order of the Minister of Culture.
