Sheriff obtain narrow victory in Armenia

Sheriff Tiraspol started successfully a new Champions League campaign. On Tuesday, July 17, the Black’n’Yellows made a step towards qualification in the third preliminary round of the competition after winning the first leg away at Ulisses Yerevan, score 1-0, Info-Prim Neo reports. The only goal of the match was scored by the Moldovan champions’ midfielder Serghei Gheorghiev on 61 minutes. It’s for the first time when Sheriff meets an Armenian team in the Champions League preliminary rounds. In 2001, the Tiraspol side bested Araks, score 1-0 and 2-0 and five years later eliminated Piunik, score 0-0 and 2-0. The second leg with Ulisses will be played on July 24, in Tiraspol. On Thursday, July 19, three other Moldovan clubs will play in European competitions. Zimbru will travel to Young Boys in Switzerland, Dacia Chisinau will host Elfsborg from Sweden and Milsami Orhei will host Aktone Kazakhstan in the second preliminary leg of the Europa League.
