Special commission to monitor tree cutting works in “Nistrean” Park

The Chisinau City Hall created a special commission that will supervise the tree cutting works performed in the Park “Nistrean” in Vadul lui Voda town. The commission will consist of specialists of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, the Agency “Moldsilva”, the State Ecological Inspectorate and the local public authorities. The clearing works are executed by the Green Areas Association. “The trees are cut selectively. An ecological examination is performed and, if the trees are sick, they are cut. For example, the poplar lives for about 40 years. Saplings are planted instead of the cut trees. Until now, there were only poplars in the Park “Nistrean”. Now we also plant lime trees and ash trees,” the Association’s head Eliferii Haruta has told Info-Prim Neo. The wood from the cut trees is used as board in repair works. But a large part of the wood is putrid and is sold to the workers of the Green Areas Association or to pensioners. If persons in a difficult financial situation ask for wood, they receive it free of charge. The Park “Nistrean” is 500 hectares in area. The tree cutting works are done depending on financing. This year, there will be cleared six hectares of the park. Similar works were performed over the last two years, said Eliferii Haruta. Earlier, the local public administration of Vadul lui Voda asked the municipal authorities to allow them to manage again the park themselves. The town’s mayor Iurie Onofriichuk said the trees are often cut illegally and the workers of the Green Areas Association do not manage to take care of them. The Chisinau City Hall yearly allocates between 1 and 2 million lei for maintaining the Park “Nistrean”.
