State allocates over 2bn lei to schools

The Government approved the allocation of 2.1 billion lei from the state budget for ensuring the functioning of the primary and secondary education institutions in the 2014- 2015 school year, IPN reports.

Minister of Education Maia Sandu said that this year the first-fourth graders, the students from socially deprived families and the fifth-twelfth graders from the Transnistrian settlements administered by the Ministry of Education will be fed free of charge.

As many as 1,090 teachers are still needed for the 2014-2015 school year. The problem of shortage will be solved by hiring graduates. The classes at universities this year total 1,281 graduates, while at teacher-training colleagues - 590.

By August 15, all the education institutions and dorms must be ready for the start of the new school year.
