State of emergency for flu epidemic will not be declared, deputy health minister

Deputy Minister of Health Svetlana Cotelea on March 9 announced that there are no reasons for declaring a public health emergency for flu epidemic, IPN reports.

According to the deputy minister, when the epidemiological level was exceeded for the first time, at the end of the eighth calendar week, a commission was convoked and intense measures were taken to prevent the spread of the disease and to coordinate and provide primary medical care. A number of 330 places in medical institutions of Chisinau municipality were earmarked for patients with severe respiratory infections.

Svetlana Cotelea also said that all the medical institutions received disposable masks and the medicines needed to maximally reduce the spread of flu. Twenty-seven schools and nurseries located in settlements where the epidemiological level was passed were closed. Currently, the nursery school in Lupa Rece of Straseni district and four nurseries of Vulcanesti town are still closed.

A state of emergency for flu epidemic is declared when the epidemiological level is exceeded during three weeks in a row. The Ministry of Health said 54 cases of flu were recorded at the National Public Health Center on March 7 and 8, as against 89 cases a week before.
