Straseni authorities unable to deal with local floods
A number of houses in Straseni town that is located in the meadow of the Byk River have been flooded. The local authorities say they can do nothing to remove the water. Contacted by Info-Prim-Neo, Mayor of Straseni Valentina Casian said she sought help from the central authorities and arranged a meeting with Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru to discuss the issue.
“We asked the central authorities to come to our aid, but received no assistance. Not even the firefighters were able to help us. I will have a meeting with the minister of the environment on Tuesday, but until then we can do nothing,” said Valentina Casian.
Liliana Puscasu, spokeswoman for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, said that Straseni is often flooded as the Straseni-Codreanca route is situated at a lower level than the Byk. In order to prevent floods in the area, the river should be deepened.
Four houses and 30 meters of the road going under the railway have been flooded after the level of water in the region rose to 40 centimeters.
