School council elections will be held in national educational institutions on October 10. On this occasion, the Ministry of Education is launching a national information campaign, IPN reports.

“We will have a system in which students will choose who represents them both at the school level, at the district level or at the national level. And the members of the national councils will feel that they have tens of thousands of students behind them, whose voice is heard. On October 10, elections to students’ school councils will be held. We will invite schools to assist students in holding the elections, which must be fair, democratic,” Minister Dan Perciun told a press conference.

The authorities allocated 3.5 million lei to support the launched information campaign. “Over the next three months, we will inform students about their role in student councils,” stated the minister.

Lavinia Vulpe, president of the National Student Council, a student of “Aristotel” High School, mentioned the pyramidal method of recording the results of elections to school councils, then to district councils and, finally, to the National Student Council. “Both I and my mates are ready to provide support to the students of councils,” noted the student.

The head of the Youth Division of the Ministry of Education Marcel Marin said that the district student councils will be elected on November 15. Later, the national councils will be constituted. “We want to have up to 50 student councils, but also 50 teachers to help them. We intend to provide funding for over 30 projects written by representatives of student councils,” said the official.

Student councils are platforms for student participation and representation created at the level of the educational institution, which aim to ensure students’ participation in decision-making.
