Three customs areas to be set up in 2019

The Customs Service plans to open three customs areas in 2019. A sum of 12.7 million lei was allocated for completing their construction. The new areas will be situated near the frontier posts Sculeni, Costești and Giurgiulești. All the procedures will be performed in the customs areas. Only the registration of the crossing and clearance of goods will be made at the checkpoint, IPN reports.

According to the Customs Service, the measure proved its efficiency at the customs post Otaci, accelerating significantly the crossing of the border. At the Sculeni and Giurgiulești frontier posts, the new areas will also help avoid the parking of trucks in localities as these cause inconvenience to the inhabitants owing to the noise and exhaust fumes.

Furthermore, three customs terminals will be built in Chisinau, Bălți and Cahul and tender contests to choose the contractors were already announced. Works to extend the infrastructure will also be performed at the Moldovan-Romanian border crossing points “Sculeni-Sculeni”, “Leușeni-Albița” and “Giurgiulești-Galați”. These will be rehabilitated as part of the Joint Operational Program Romania – Republic of Moldova 2014-2020 that is financed by the EU and co-financed by the Governments of the two states. The budget of the project is €10 million, €5 million of which is intended for Moldova.
