The damage caused by the torrential rain of May 31 in Chisinau was estimated at over 2 million lei. The rain damaged almost 8,000 square meters of asphalt and over 10,000 square meters of roofs of apartment buildings in the capital city, IPN reports.
According to the Chisinau City Hall, over 2.5 million lei is needed to repair the damaged streets. About 240,000 lei will go to clean the streets and collect the mud and waste brought by water.
No traffic-related problems were reported in Chisinau last night and today. The pluvial drainage system works normally. The public transport runs according to schedule, except for the buses and trolleybuses that travel on Stefan cel Mare si Sfant Boulevard, which were diverted onto Bucuresti St after a part of the asphalt on the main artery of Chisinau collapsed, at the intersection of the streets Armeneasca and Vasile Alecsandri.
The authorities said the works to liquidate the consequences of the torrential rain will be resumed when the weather permits. According to specialists, the precipitation that fell during the last 24 hours exceeds half of the monthly average.
