TRM holds fundraising drive for children in foster care

Businesses, high-ranking officials as well as ordinary people donated money to children in foster homes as part of a fundraising campaign themed “I Want to Have a Family” held by the national broadcaster TRM on June 1, Info-Prim Neo reports. Radio Moldova director Alexandru Dorogan said that the first radio drive dedicated to children was held 15 years ago. “For this year's drive we have narrowed the theme by selecting a certain group, and namely those children who lost their parents”, said Alexandru Dorogan. Invited to feature in the drive were families and their foster children. One of such mothers was Elena Craciun from Orhei district: “Our family provided a home to 16 children. I'm very happy they could find a shelter that helped them grow up in a family environment and learn something. I'm doing this because my heart aches for the abandoned children”. Near her, a 12-year-old boy called Iurie said that he is happy to live in a foster family, where he can learn many things and communicate. Speaker Marian Lupu joined the campaign, as he considers one of the duties of the political class to develop efficient policies for the support and protection of children in difficult situations. “We, the politicians, have to do more than personal donations. We ought to come up with efficient policies of aiding and protecting children in need. An import step towards this goal is the finalization of the process of de-institutionalization and integration of children into families”, he said. The Speaker donated 10,000 lei. The head of the PDM parliamentary faction Dumitru Diacov contributed with a similar sum from the faction and also brought some toys for the children. Prime Minister Vlad Filat participated as well. He donated 50,000 lei on the behalf of PLDM. Liberal-Democratic MPs headed by PLDM’s parliamentary faction Valeriu Strelet donated as well, alongside other PLDM members from the local and central public administration. MP Mihai Godea, head of the Democratic Action Party, declared it was better for every child to find a family. “There’s no place like home. If we can help these children find the warmth of a family, this power of giving joy will make us happier”, he said. PAD’s donation was 10,000 lei. The money is collected for 7 families with foster parents and 7 family-type children’s houses. The campaign will run until 8.45 PM on Radio Moldova and TV Moldova 1.
